Transforming Connectivity in Frederick
High-speed fiber internet is expanding in Frederick! We’ve partnered with Intrepid Fiber Networks and ALLO Communications for an exciting broadband infrastructure build-out to enhance connectivity for homes and businesses throughout the Town.
What is Fiber Internet?
Fiber internet is a cutting-edge, high-speed internet connection that transmits data as pulses of light through thin glass strands. This technology delivers:
- Faster Speeds: Ideal for streaming, gaming, and remote work. Fiber, on average, is 10x faster than cable.
- Low Latency: Ensures smoother connections with minimal delay. Latency is measured in milliseconds (ms); fiber latency is around 1- 5 ms, while cable is 15- 40 ms.
- Reliability: Maintains strong, consistent internet access. Fiber is ~10x more reliable than cable, based on the amount of downtime during a year

Property Notification & Restoration
Work Areas: Construction will occur in public rights-of-way and public service easements, some of which may be near or within residential lot areas.
The public rights-of-way, or ROW, are the legally designated areas of land, typically managed by your local government, that allow public access for transportation and utilities, including roads, sidewalks, bike lanes, and underground or overhead utility lines. This could result in some roads being partially closed and light disruption.
Notifications: Intrepid’s contractors will notify residents 72 hours before construction using door hangers. Contractors will display company information on their uniforms and vehicles. Staff will also knock on doors before accessing residential property.
Property Restoration: All properties affected by construction will be promptly restored to their original condition after completion. Due to seasonality/weather/inclement conditions, property restoration may be delayed to ensure that the quality of any restoration is maintained.
