Update on Water Surcharge Breakdown in January's Utility Bill

The Town has discovered a recent glitch in the Town's utility billing system that put negative numbers in the Gallons Subject to Surcharge column in the High Water Use Surcharge Breakdown section on January's utility bill. It is important to understand that this glitch did not impact the accuracy of the charges or water meter readings on the bill, just the High Water Use Surcharge Breakdown section that was intended for information only. A negative number under the Gallons Subject to Surcharge column is considered to be a zero and these customers would not be subject to a surcharge. Only if the YTD Usage exceeds the Annual Gallons Allowed and there is a positive number under the Gallons Subject to Surcharge would be subject to a surcharge if there is similar water usage in 2012. Staff is currently working with our software vendor to correct this problem and we apologize for any confusion this may have caused.
