711 Relay - Service "The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has adopted use of the 711 dialing code for access to Telecommunications Relay Services (TRS). TRS permits persons with a hearing or speech disability to use the telephone system via a text telephone (TTY) or other device to call persons with or without such disabilities. For more information about the various types of TRS, see the FCC’s consumer guide, or visit the website of our Disability Rights Office (DRO)."

Neighborhood Watch Neighborhood Watch is one of the most effective and least costly ways to prevent crime in your neighborhood. A successful neighborhood watch program creates bonds among area residents, helps reduce burglaries and robberies, and improves relations between police and the communities they serve.
The ABC’s of Neighborhood Watch
- Any community resident can join - young and old, single and married, renter and home owner.
- A few concerned residents, a community organization, or a law enforcement agency can spearhead the effort to organize a watch.
- Members learn how to make their homes more secure, watch out for each other and the neighborhood, and report activities that raise their suspicions to the police.
- Watch groups are not vigilantes. Watch groups are not police officers. They are extra eyes and ears for reporting crime and helping neighbors. Neighborhood Watch helps build pride and serves as a springboard for efforts that address community concerns such as recreation for youth, child care, and property maintenance.
- The Frederick Police Department has an active Neighborhood Watch organization. Most of the neighborhoods of Frederick have at least one person who is a member or “block captain” as they are called. Block captains meet quarterly as a group with the police department, where questions can be answered and officers from the department can provide a briefing on current concerns.
- Block captains serve as a point of contact between their neighborhoods and the police department. If you would like to know more, please contact the department.

Disposal of Prescription/Non-prescription Drugs The police department, in cooperation with the St Vrain Sanitation District, will accept prescription and non-prescription pharmaceutical drugs for destruction. Studies have shown that disposal of these items in the waste systems of the nation results in contamination of water supplies and adverse effects on the environment. Items received for destruction at the police department will be destroyed by incineration. Citizens wishing to dispose of old prescription and non-prescription drugs are asked to bring them to the police department during normal business hours. Calling ahead to arrange for a police officer to be present is encouraged since these items may only be received by a police officer. Call 720-382-5700.

Volunteer Program The Police Department is looking for a few good volunteers. Citizens interested in doing volunteer work with the department are advised of the following: Volunteers must fill out an application and a release form for a full background investigation, as with all regular police department employees.
- Volunteers will be working in a criminal justice agency and will be expected to respect the confidentiality of official information.
- The programs that volunteers will assist with are, to begin with, the Neighborhood Watch, Citizen Satisfaction Survey, traffic surveys and speed monitoring.
- As the volunteer program continues to develop, there will be other police department work that will require the assistance of volunteers.
- Volunteers will not be expected to contribute more than a few hours each month—at the discretion of the volunteer.
If working as a volunteer at the Police Department is something that interests you, please contact the department for additional information at 720.382.5700, or by e-mail.

Vacation House Watch By notifying the Frederick Police Department prior to going on vacation, residents can request that their homes be checked regularly by an on-duty police officer. This is in no way a guarantee that a home on vacation house watch will not be burglarized. If there is a problem, however, it will be discovered sooner and responsible parties (previously designated by the homeowner) will be notified immediately. For more information or to notify the Police Department that you would like your home watched as part of the program, contact the Frederick Police Department at 720.382.5700, mail (333 Fifth Street, Frederick, CO, 80530), fax (303-833-2516), or in person.
