The Engineering and Utilities Department manages the Town’s transportation infrastructure to provide a safe, accessible and convenient transportation system that meets the needs of the traveling public and enhances the quality of life in the Town today and into the future. A safe and efficient transportation system is also an essential element in maintaining a good business climate in our community.
The Town’s street network includes seventy-six (76) centerline miles of paved roadways along with an additional seven (7) miles of gravel roadways. The condition of the entire transportation system is evaluated bi-annually and improvement and maintenance projects are planned and budgeted through the utilization of a pavement management system. In addition to general fund revenues for maintenance and reconstruction, and development impact fees for street widening and intersection improvements, the Town receives transportation funding from the state and federal government. The Town is a member of the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) which is the designated transportation planning organization for our area. All federal transportation funds must be coordinated by and through DRCOG.
Engineering and Utilities Department staff coordinates transportation improvements with surrounding communities, Weld County, the Regional Transportation District (RTD) and the Colorado Dept of Transportation (CDOT). Staff also reviews development proposals and inspects construction of improvements to ensure that they meet Town master plans and standards.
