The Frederick Police Department held their annual awards ceremony Wednesday night at the Bella Rosa Golf Course Club House. A total of 24 awards were given out for everything from Life Saving to Volunteers, and the premiere award of the night, Officer of the Year, went to Community Service Officer Ian Bales, who received multiple nominations from fellow officers.
“The police officers, clerks and volunteers at the Frederick Police Department apply themselves every day to helping make things better for others,” said Frederick Chief of Police Gary Barbour. “The annual awards and recognitions are a way to thank them for their efforts.”
A Medal for Life Saving award was given to Officer Aaron Herbert for notable effort which results in the saving of a life. Officer Herbert earned his award in successfully providing CPR to a victim of a heart attack.
Dr. Matthew Rooney, of Aspen Meadow Veterinary Specialists, was recognized with an award for improving the life of Police K9, Bo. Dr. Rooney has donated surgery worth thousands of dollars to keep Bo pain-free and in top condition.
Other notable awards included Chief’s Commendations for Officers Ian Albert, Aaron Herbert, Jared Bakes, Chad Seat, Ian Albert and Ken Doll. Accident Investigation Expert Certification by Officer Ken Doll was recognized. The DUI Arrest Leader for the year was Officer Scott Coonrod with 10 arrests.
