Mayor Eric Doering and Longmont's Mayor Pro-Tem Gabe Santos shake hands after signing the IGA.
Last night, the Town of Frederick and the City of Longmont signed an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) to further the continuing collaborative relationship of the two neighboring communities.
Intergovernmental agreements are typically used to formalize cooperation between two government agencies, which is the case between Frederick and Longmont who have a long history of successfully working together.
While this particular IGA between the two communities focuses mainly on land use issues, the communities have forged several successful partnerships over the past few years such as sharing resources through a formal agreement which provides SWAT services and police officer training opportunities.
“Frederick is excited to be a leader in the Carbon Valley region to seek and find common ground on issues of mutual concern and interest with the City of Longmont,” said Frederick Mayor Eric Doering. “This IGA is a great accomplishment and demonstrates that residents in both communities can feel confident that their elected leadership can work proactively together to achieve common goals that enhance our communities’ visions.”
